Integrated Electric-/Electronic-product documentation- and change management lead to efficient processes in the automotive industry

UNITY has been involved in DaimlerChrysler’s DEEP-C (Integrated Electric-/Electronic-product documentation and Change Management) project since 2005. Growing complexity in the area of electrics/electronics, which is translating into increasing variance and shorter software lifecycles, is making it necessary for OEMs in the automotive industry to implement flexible, integrated processes across the entire value-creation process.

“UNITY’s consultants are supporting the conception and implementation of integrated E/E-product documentation processes. Their engagement and different specialist and methodological competencies are making an essential contribution to the success of this project.”

Dr. Kai Storjohann, Project Leader DEEP- C

The goal of the project is to optimize the interplay of the documentation process and change management for E/E components in the areas of development, production, and after sales. For this, the delivery processes also need to be considered. The core element of the project is the development and introduction of a PDM system into the central management of E/E product data for all relevant divisions.
At the conclusion of the DEEP-C project, DaimlerChrysler will have at its disposal an optimized, integrated documentation process that will be ready for use as soon as the company’s suppliers have been subsumed into it. It will also have a new PDM system for electric-/electronic documentation. This is intended to serve as a basis for developing automobiles, producing them, and providing after-sales services at DaimlerChrysler over the next several years.
UNITY is supporting the DEEP-C project with its comprehensive automotive know-how in several very different functions:

  • Methodical process consulting, through which the documentation processes along the entire value-creation chain are rigorously analyzed and optimized
  • Comprehensive project management regarding time, costs, and quality at all management levels
  • Optimization of the internal and external project communication
  • Management of IT requirements for the PDM system
  • Content-based design of documentation concepts
