A Successful and Future-Oriented IT System

At the beginning of 2005, the seating furniture manufacturer COR, with the support of UNITY, began a project to optimize its IT system. Together they developed and implemented a future-oriented IT strategy. The point of entry for the project was the company’s overall objectives. Looking at these brought up important questions: Which strategic elements determine the future activities of COR and what demands on the company’s IT can be inferred from this? Which optimization potentials could arise from merging COR’s IT system with that of its sister company, Interlübke?

“We are facing the challenge of supporting our business processes with an efficient IT infrastructure and with IT systems that will last into the future. UNITY, in creating an IT strategy for us, made a valuable contribution to assessing the original situation and then proceeding from there.”

Leo Lübke, Managing Director

Furthermore, the risks that would arise if the company carried on with its existing IT system without making any changes to it had to be identified and evaluated. And in a final move, the actions identified needed to be broken down into individual project steps. Various possible courses of action with different investment requirements were then developed. The answers to the questions asked at the beginning of the process formed the basis of the IT strategy and related optimization of the IT system that we determined would best support the business processes of this family-run firm.
At the end of the objective-setting phase, UNITY began its analysis of the as-is situation. Pinpointing the potential areas of improvement within the organization and IT system and then developing a general IT strategy and IT road map were the main tasks assigned to UNITY.
The results of this analysis were particularly valuable as they formed the basis for the decision to be made by COR’s top leadership regarding the future structure of its IT system. Investment decisions regarding the IT system landscape and the IT infrastructure have now been taken and the related internal processes and indicators for measuring its performance have been made much more transparent. A catalog of measures was produced detailing how potentials within the IT system could be tapped for the future benefit of the company. Furthermore, a design for a comprehensive management information system (MIS) to evaluate sales- and customer data was developed.
