Our Base

UNITY is a company founded by the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of the University of Paderborn. Its initiator was Prof. Jürgen Gausemeier, Professor of Computer Integrated Manufacturing at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute.
The Heinz Nixdorf Institute is a research center within the University of Paderborn. It is based on an initiative by and the support of Heinz Nixdorf. His intention was to merge research and practise and thereby to give a positive impulse to the economic development of Germany. Today seven professors and over 150 scientific officers work at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute to promote Heinz Nixdorf's vision. The research division led by Professor Gausemeier covers the following areas:

• Innovation Management:
  Innovation determines the success of machine engineering and other related industries. The results are increasingly based on the interrelationship of mechanics, electronics, control engineering and software development. In the area of innovation management the Institute generates new methods and processes for product- and production system development and, together with UNITY, launches these into industrial use.
  
  
• Development Innovation Systems:
  The digitale factory and virtual production are established concepts. What is meant by these are the imaging and analysis of computer models of automated production systems. In order to be able to keep up in future with ever-shortening product life cycles, systems are developed that support the creation of mechatronic products in parallel with the development of the product.
  
  
• Virtual and Augmented Reality:
  Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are key technologies of Virtual Engineering. The enable the visual and interactive presentation of information held in computers, for example of the form and behavior of virtual prototypes. Wir erforschen in diesen Themenfeldern in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Industrie, um VR und AR durchgängig im Produktentwicklungsprozess zum Einsatz zu bringen.
